When Patch checked in with the team behind fundraising for Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital in October of 2011, pledges and donations had reached nearly $4 million. Now, about a year-and-a-half later, more than double that amount has been raised through gifts and pledges: $8,040,943. The goal is to raise $25 million for the new facility, which could break ground in late 2013 or early 2014, according to Dexter A. Diane Bello ’99, ’05 Appointed University Registrar at Stony Brook University
Dear Members of the Stony Brook University Community,
I am very pleased to announce that Diane Bello has accepted the position as University Registrar at Stony Brook University, effective 4/1/13.
Diane began her career at Stony Brook in 1988 in the History Department and has held various positions during her 25-year tenure at the University. Prior to accepting the University Registrar position, Diane served as Senior Associate College Registrar and
Associate University System Analyst in the Registrar’s Office.
Diane is a member of several national organizations and higher education groups. This year, Diane was selected to serve as part of the Student Record Product Advisory Group (SRPAG). Since 2011, Diane has held the Treasurer position for the State University of New York Registrars Association (SUNYRA). She also serves on the Executive Board of this organization. During 2009-11, Diane served on the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Transfer Committee.
Diane will continue to be involved in several major projects, including the implementation of the new general education requirements. She is also involved in the SUNY-wide Degree Works project currently underway. As part of Project 50 Forward, Diane and her team have been working on the implementation of departmental degree audits. Diane also works closely with Academic and Transfer Advising Services to expand electronic course-by-course transfer articulations.
Diane lives in Stony Brook with her husband, Todd, and their two children, Michael and Jacquelyn. Please join me in congratulating Diane on her new position.

$70 Early Bird Film Passes Now Available
Stony Brook Film Festival Early Bird film passes and party tickets go on sale today. Film passes are $70 for entry into all films.
In June, when the film festival schedule is announced, passes are $80. Anyone buying a Film Pass may buy party tickets at the same time: $20 for the Opening Night Reception and $20 for the Closing Night Awards Reception. Parties provide an opportunity to mingle with filmmakers, guests and other film lovers. Party tickets are $25 for non-passholders, subject to availability.
The 18th Stony Brook Film Festival will once again celebrate the best in independent film chosen from hundreds of entries. All films are shown in Staller Center’s Main Stage Theatre on one of the largest screens in the region. New foreign language films, American independent films and shorts from around the globe promise to provide an unforgettable experience this summer.
“We offer the Early Bird film passes because patrons have asked for them,” notes Alan Inkles, founder and director of the Stony Brook Film Festival. “The response to the Early Bird offer in the past has been a vote of confidence in the Festival,” says Alan Inkles. “Many film goers who make the Stony Brook Film Festival an annual event each summer have been buying Early Bird film passes for years.”
Notes a film festival regular, “I buy an Early Bird pass because I know I’m going to want to attend most of the films in the Festival and the Early Bird Pass locks the event into my summer schedule. I trust that the programming will be high caliber. Since film passes have sold out in past years, I buy one early, save money, and I arrive early so I can choose a good seat in the theater.”

About the Festival
The 18th Annual Stony Brook Film Festival will host filmmakers at Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University, Thursday, July 18 through Saturday, July 27, 2013. Short films are paired with most features. Films screen in the evenings and during the weekend with question and answer periods after screenings. The final Saturday includes a closing night film and awards reception with John Anderson, film critic, as the Master of Ceremonies.
The Stony Brook Film Festival is a highly-regarded, highly-competitive festival. The ten-day festival produced by Staller Center for the Arts showcases films to houses of 850 -1000 filmgoers. The complete schedule for the 2013 Stony Brook Film Festival will be announced in early June.
